New chair hits the ground running at UNT System College of Pharmacy

He may be the new Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, but there's not a lot of sitting for Iok-Hou Pang, PhD. Since joining the new UNT System College of Pharmacy last August, the former director of glaucoma research at Alcon Laboratories has been working tirelessly to develop new therapeutic approaches and conduct innovative research at the North Texas Eye Research Institute

An expert pharmacologist, biochemist and cell biologist with more than 22 years of accomplishments in the pharmaceutical industry, Pang's leadership of multidisciplinary project teams has resulted in many potential drugs and drug targets (biological targets that drugs can act upon) for glaucoma. He's also an experienced teacher, continuously serving as mentor of graduate students, as well as lecturing on various subjects of pharmacology and vision science.

In addition, he has served as co-editor of a book about research methods of retinal diseases, authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, and has been granted numerous US and international patents.

He's also no stranger to UNTHSC: he's been an adjunct faculty member since 1998.

The UNT System College of Pharmacy is scheduled to admit its first class in the fall of 2013.
