Season of Giving banner 2023

The second annual UNT System Season of Giving is upon us!  In light of Our Values, we celebrate this time and season to give back and provide hope and resources to those in need.  Not only can we provide hope to others, but studies have proven that generosity -- of time, efforts, or resources -- is good for your health!

GIVE

As you consider where to donate your time and resources during this season, we would like to highlight United Way, the North Texas Food Bank, the Tarrant Area Food Bank, and the WFAA Santa's Helpers Toy Drive.

1 in 8 people in North Texas is food insecure and does not know where their next meal is coming from.  We can help!  Every $1 donated helps to provide access to nutritious meals for children, seniors, and families in our community.  Please consider sharing nutritious meals with your neighbors through a donation of any amount to the North Texas Food Bank or the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

United Way seeks to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. Now in their second century of service, they are building resilient, equitable communities across the globe. Our local United Way organizations serving Tarrant County, Denton County, and the Dallas Metroplex are linked below. Please consider a financial donation this holiday season to support your local United Way; every penny makes an impact!

WFAA’s Santa's Helpers is celebrating its 54th year of collecting holiday toys for children aged infant through teen throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant. You can shop from Santa's Helpers' Amazon wish list or drop off a new, unwrapped toy(s) at any donation bin throughout UNT Denton campus, UNT Dallas campus, or the UNT System Building in Downtown Dallas, floor 7.

If you prefer to support Santa's Helpers with a financial donation, you can donate online here.

VOLUNTEER

UNT System institutions have created a volunteer program for each of our employees who are interested in living our We Care value and volunteering to “help at least one person every day” through giving back to their communities. Beginning on Nov. 20 and ending on Dec. 22, employees may volunteer their time, up to half a workday, for 501(c)(3) organization(s) of their choice on a date approved by their supervisor. Employees eligible to participate in the volunteer program must be in a regular position that normally accrues vacation and/or sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible for 4 hours of volunteer time; part-time employees’ volunteer time will be prorated. Please click here to download the form to have volunteer time certified and approved.

Each campus will have local volunteer opportunities available and shared with you soon through campus communication and on our Season of Giving webpage. We welcome you to celebrate being Better Together and participate in these opportunities with your colleagues, if possible, or you are welcome to choose another 501(c)(3) organization(s) of your choice.

ENGAGE

Each campus is planning a "Week of Giving" from Dec. 4-8, highlighting local opportunities to give and engage with your communities.  Those details will be communicated by your campus and will be shared here once finalized.  Show Your Fire by actively engaging in the week's events!
