Contracts are an essential element of much of the business that takes place at the University of North Texas System (UNT System), the University of North Texas (UNT), the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas), and the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). All contracts entered into by UNT System, UNT, UNTD, or UNTHSC must adhere to (i) State of Texas requirements; (ii) the UNT System Board of Regents Rules; and (iii) the respective policies of UNT System, UNT, UNTD, and UNTHSC.
Key among these requirements is that all contracts must be: (a) in writing (b) in the name of UNT System or the component institution (not in the name of a department or an individual); (c) reviewed for legal sufficiency by the Office of General Counsel (OGC), unless otherwise exempt from legal review; and (d) signed by an individual who has delegated signature authority to bind the System or the component institution entering into the contract.
In addition to requiring review by OGC, contracts may also require review by UNT System Procurement/Purchasing department and/or the Sponsored Research/Grants Office at your institution.
Contract Management Handbook
The Contract Handbook and Standard/Software Addendums, provided below, are designed to assist UNT System and its component institutions with their contracts and to ensure compliance with applicable state law requirements. The Contract Handbook covers topics such as minimum contract requirements, signature authority, legal review, state contract requirements, and sample clauses and includes a checklist. If the appropriate Standard/Software Addendum is attached to an agreement and signed by the appropriate parties then the terms of the Standard/Software Addendum are incorporated into the agreement.
The Contract Management Handbook should be consulted for all contract matters and the applicable Standard/Software Addendums utilized when appropriate.
