Three distinguished faculty members from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth were honored at the American Osteopathic Foundations’ annual Honors Gala in San Antonio.
Dr. David Mason received the 2024 Educator of the Year Award, Dr. John Licciardone and TCOM students received the 2024 Journal of Osteopathic Medicine Clinical Research Award and Dr. Dante Paredes was recognized as a 2024 AOF State Emerging Leader.

Mason has been with TCOM since 2010 and is currently the assistant dean of osteopathic clinical education and a professor in the Department of Family and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He just completed a year-long term as the Texas Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians’ president.
Established in 1997, the AOF’s Educator of the Year award recognizes the role educators play in the development of osteopathic medical students, residents, and the profession.
The designation Educator of the Year is awarded to an individual who not only emulates the osteopathic profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching but who is passionate about osteopathic medicine, has made a significant impact on the academic advancement of osteopathic students, and has made long-standing contributions to the profession in the academic arena.

For the fourth consecutive year, the American Osteopathic Association has given an award for the research conducted by the Osteopathic Research Center and its PRECISION Pain Research Registry. The article was entitled “The Process and Outcomes of Chronic Low Back Pain Treatment Provided by Osteopathic and Allopathic Physicians: A Retrospective Cohort Study.”
It was led by Dr. Licciardone, TCOM students Joel Kellerlee, Matthew Joseph, Moath B. Mohammad, Kelly G. Kim and Jyotirmaya Jain who participated in the ORC’s Summer Program in Clinical Research in 2022 and were co-authors of the article.

Dr. Paredes was selected by the AOF’s Board of Directors as a 2024 State Emerging Leader. The honor is given to new Osteopathic physicians in practice who lead through exceptional service and an ongoing commitment to patient-centered care.
Paredes was selected for his exemplary work, demonstrated leadership, significant impact on those he’s serving as well as his passion for, and unwavering commitment to, the Osteopathic profession.
In addition, Dr. Kendi Hensel was selected for the Thomas L. Northup Lecturer Award for achievements in osteopathic education, research, clinical practice, or professional management. To be named a Thomas L. Northup Lecturer, an individual must reflect the stature of Dr. Northup in fields such as education, research, clinical practice, professional management, or allied categories of activity. The honorary lecture was given on Saturday, Sept. 21 during the AOA’s annual Osteopathic Medicine Education Conference.
