Dr. Alzyoud is an assistant professor within The University of Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s Department of Physical Therapy. He teaches the neurological rehabilitation course series.
“My research is focused on understanding human balance, particularly how sitting balance impairment following neuromuscular injuries affects recovery and activity participation,” Alzyoud said. “Additionally, I am currently researching whether the use of high-fidelity simulation experiences can improve the skills and confidence of physical therapy students when they transition to clinical practice.”
Alzyoud earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Hashemite University in Jordan, a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the New York Institute of Technology and a PhD in Physical Therapy (with emphasis on neurology and neurological rehabilitation) from Texas Woman’s University in 2017.

Q: What led you to your field?
A: I have a profound appreciation for the human body’s capacity to move and interact with the world around us. Witnessing individuals who face challenges in experiencing this freedom has fueled my desire to help.
Q: What is one thing you wish you knew before you started your studies?
A: Exploring the full range of resources on campus, including academic support centers, libraries and tutoring services, could have significantly enhanced my learning experience. Also, prioritizing mental health and seeking support when needed. I believe that it is crucial for academic success and overall well-being.
Q: What do you most enjoy about working at HSC?
A: I really enjoy many aspects, but one that stands out to me is the diversity of the student body and faculty. This creates an enriching environment. I love the unique perspectives and experiences that one can encounter here.
Q: What is your fondest memory of your time at HSC so far?
A: Receiving emails from students who have passed their licensure exams and embarked on their careers is one of the most rewarding experiences. It signifies a pivotal moment in their lives and provides me with a sense of achievement and fulfillment.
Q: When you’re not at HSC, what do you enjoy doing the most?
A: Spending time with my precious family. We enjoy spending time in nature together, appreciating its ever-changing beauty.
Q: What do you hope students take from their time at HSC?
A: Joining HSC is the start, and leaving HSC is not the end. It’s important for students to remember that learning doesn’t stop after graduation.
