With a passion for health and a background in lifestyle health sciences, Cristin Crawley, MS, CHWC, guides her clients on transformative journeys toward better well-being. The 2022 graduate from The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s Department of Personalized Health and Well-Being currently works in the heart of Irving, Texas, as a certified health and wellness coach at CareATC.
As a Certified Health & Wellness Coach (CHWC), the typical day for Crawley involves personalized one-on-one coaching sessions tailored to each client’s needs. Drawing from her education in nutrition, exercise science, and behavioral change strategies, she creates holistic wellness plans that integrate seamlessly with clients’ lifestyles. Collaboration with medical professionals ensures a comprehensive approach that addresses both physical and emotional health.
“My education at HSC was invaluable,” Crawley said. “It equipped me with the tools to empathetically engage with clients and foster lasting behavior change.”
While rewarding, this role presents challenges — such as motivating clients amid busy schedules — but the rewards are equally significant. Witnessing clients achieve health milestones and enhance their quality of life fuels Crawley.
“Every day, I’m inspired by the connections I form and the positive impact I can make,”
Crawley said.
The recipe to making a difference
Empathy and effective communication stand out as pivotal skills that have contributed to her success. By actively listening to clients and employing motivational interviewing techniques, Crawley helps her clients identify personal motivations and set achievable goals.
For aspiring health coaches, Crawley encourages a hands-on approach. She encourages
getting involved with internships and volunteer work. Crawley also says developing
strong communication and motivational interviewing skills will help set you apart.
Excellence beyond the classroom
Reflecting on her journey, Crawley says she wish she could tell her younger self to be patient and persistent and embrace every experience as an opportunity for growth.
Crawley’s path from HSC to her current role exemplifies a commitment to holistic, compassionate care. Her involvement in local initiatives and dedication to underserved communities underscores her desire to improve community health through education and support.
She encourages those currently the lifestyle health sciences community to continue innovating and fostering empathy.
“Our field has the power to change lives,” Crawley said. “Let’s stay committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and making a meaningful impact together.”
