An organizational evolution is taking shape in the UNT System’s procurement operation
that will drive increased effectiveness, efficiency, customer service and cost savings
across UNT World, while also extending first-hand experiential learning opportunities
for business students at UNT and UNT Dallas.
A restructured procurement office will be in effect starting Feb. 1. Driven by a desire
to modernize processes and streamline functionality across our campuses and UNT System
headquarters, this strategic evolution will create sustainable efficiencies that will
also help counter the many financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the guidance of Ron Brade, UNT System's Vice Chancellor for Strategic Sourcing
and Chief Procurement Officer, the new organization structure will include a Purchasing
and Payments team headed by Shelley Pavero; an Acquisition Center of Excellence team
headed by Jon Rascon; and a Strategic Sourcing team headed by Greg Obar.
Strategic Sourcing, a collaborative process that will lower costs by leveraging UNT
World’s collective buying power, will be key to the overall strategy and success by
delivering the most “bang for the buck.” Strategic sourcing seeks to consolidate similar
contracts across campuses where possible, leading to better prices, better service
and reduced costs.
Particularly beneficial to this new business model is the ability to involve our outstanding
students enrolled in our UNT and UNT Dallas business schools. Students will be eligible
to support the office through internships to gain real-world experience. Opportunities
are being explored for students to earn income and obtain college credit.
