UNT’s College of Information Dean Kinshuk Elected to iSchools Board of Directors

Dean Kinshuk of the College of InformationDENTON (UNT), Texas — Dr. Kinshuk, professor and dean of the College of Information at the University of North Texas, recently was elected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors for the iSchools consortium.

The iSchools organization, which is devoted to advancing the information field into the 21st century, is known as an esteemed international network comprising more than 120 university information schools worldwide – including UNT’s College of Information.

“I am pleased to join the Board of Directors for iSchools with the aim to support advancing the information science discipline — be it through the improving the quality of doctoral programs, enhancing opportunities for graduates, supporting early career researchers in their research and instruction activities, or creating new initiatives to bring information science schools across geographical regions together for shared understanding and knowledge,” Kinshuk said. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the discipline with passion and dedication.”

Dr. Jiangping Chen, professor and chair of the information science department, extends her congratulations to Kinshuk. "I applaud Dean Kinshuk for joining the iSchools Board of Directors. His leadership has propelled the UNT iSchool — the College of Information — to excel in student success, secure external grants, and produce scholarly publications. Recognized as a visionary and outstanding leader in learning and information technologies, I am confident that Kinshuk’s inclusion on the Board will enhance the iSchools' impact and contributions to society," Dr. Chen says.

Kinshuk became UNT’s dean and professor in 2016, bringing with him a wealth of experience. Prior to this, he held the NSERC/CNRL/Xerox/McGraw Hill Research Chair for Adaptivity and Personalization in Informatics, supported by the Federal government of Canada, Provincial government of Alberta, and national and international industries. He also served as a full professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems and as associate dean of faculty of science and technology at Athabasca University in Canada.

A highly accomplished scholar, Kinshuk earned his bachelor’s degree from Engineering College Kota - University of Rajasthan, India, master’s degree from Strathclyde University (Glasgow) and his Ph.D. from De Montfort University (Leicester), United Kingdom. His research is dedicated to advancing innovative paradigms, architectures, and implementations of online and distance learning systems for individualized and adaptive learning in increasingly global environments. Areas of research interests also include learning analytics, learning technologies, mobile, ubiquitous and location-aware learning systems, cognitive profiling, and interactive technologies.
