UNT’s new president looks to future as more than 46,000 students enroll for fall

UNT, is the largest public university in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and the third largest in the state

DENTON (UNT), Texas — With more than 46,000 (46,309) students enrolled this fall and nearly 13,000 (12,980) degrees awarded in the 2023-24 academic year. The University of North Texas continues to be the educational engine driving economic growth for the North Texas region.

“UNT is uniquely positioned to make a transformative difference for our entire campus community and businesses, industries, and civic organizations throughout North Texas and across Texas,” said UNT President Harrison Keller, Ph.D. “As the largest public university in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and the third largest in the state, UNT is leading the way in expanding opportunities for Texas students and driving the state’s creative economy.”

President Keller joined UNT Aug. 1 as its 17th president and has committed the campus to work on three critical areas:

  • Student Success – serving students from their first engagement with UNT, throughout their studies, and into their careers with high-quality educational experiences and degrees that prepare them for prosperous careers and lives of meaning and purpose.
  • Research and Innovation – supporting innovators on campus whose work is shaping our future and addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
  • Strategic Budgeting – aligning the university’s resources to support its mission and strategic priorities, especially to advance student success and research, discovery, and innovation.

First Class Day at UNTEnrollment numbers are based on the 12th class day census date, which was Aug. 30. Fall enrollment numbers are not considered final until they are approved by the UNT System Board of Regents.
