Fostering educational environment that empowers faculty and engages students
Dr. Cathy Scott has been named Director of the new UNT Dallas Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL).
Dr. Scott is an Associate Professor of Business Accounting and serves as the Program Coordinator for the School of Business Graduate Programs and the Dealership Management Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Management and Organization, a postgraduate certificate in accounting, an MBA in Strategic Leadership, and a Bachelor of Business Administration. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Scott spent 25 years in the automotive industry gaining extensive experience in financial management, leadership, training and development, and dealership operations. educational environment that empowers faculty to effectively teach and engage our
diverse student body in innovative and creative ways. It will strive to provide resources,
training, and collaborative opportunities that promote student learning and success.
Dr. Scott is deeply committed to enhancing higher education by fostering inclusive learning environments. Her scholarship includes numerous publications and presentations on emerging technologies (including AI), leveraging technology for education, improving online learning, engaging students through active and project-based learning, data analytics, HyFlex classroom design, neurodiversity, Universal Design for Learning, Design Thinking, and bridging the gap between accounting education and workplace needs.
In addition to her research, Dr. Scott is the author of two college accounting textbooks
and the co-founder of TeachingAndLearningToolbox.com, a blog and resource hub connecting technology with pedagogy.
She has been recognized with several prestigious local, state and national awards for her contributions to teaching and research innovation, including the American Accounting Association (AAA)/EY Foundation Innovation in Education Award, the Bea Sanders/AICPA Teaching Innovation Award, and the AAA/J. Michael and Mary Anne Cook/Deloitte Foundation Prize—the highest honor for exemplary teachers in accounting.
