UNT Dallas welcomes interim president Dr. Warren von Eschenbach

Dr. von EschenbachDr. Warren von Eschenbach assumed the role of Interim President of the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) on Monday, April 1, 2024, as part of a leadership transition that includes the upcoming retirement of President Bob Mong.

Dr. von Eschenbach also serves as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of North Texas System (UNT System). He is a strategic, values-based leader with a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

Since joining the UNT System in Sept. 2023, Dr. von Eschenbach has been pivotal in coordinating and implementing system-wide academic policies, standards, and initiatives, ensuring curriculum consistency and adherence to academic regulations and strategic goals.

Prior to the UNT System, Dr. von Eschenbach spent 14 years at the University of Notre Dame, where he held multiple leadership roles. He was instrumental in creating the Notre Dame Technology Ethics Center, partnerships to support faculty research and collaborations, and a new core curriculum for international programs.

Bob Mong Most notably, Dr. von Eschenbach’s academic strategic plan and vision for internationalizing the university led to increased enrollment at Notre Dame campuses abroad.

Bob Mong moves into the role of Interim Associate Vice Chancellor, in which he will oversee several key initiatives related to the new regional law enforcement training center to be built on the UNT Dallas campus, as well as athletics and various community-based projects. Mong will report to UNT System Chancellor Dr. Michael R. Williams.

Since becoming UNT Dallas President in 2015, Mong has demonstrated a keen ability to foster community relationships and bring leaders together, resulting in a profound impact on the university’s growth and transformation. His knowledge and experience will continue to benefit UNT Dallas until he retires later this year.

Dr. von Eschenbach will remain Interim President of UNT Dallas while a search committee reviews candidates for a new, permanent President.
